We may not have been able to see the gardens of Paris in their green and blooming glory, but despite the cold temperature and frequent rain, there was something appealing about sightseeing in the late-November weather: the gray skies, bare trees, and
empty benches all made for some very moody moments and interesting photos. One of my favorite pictures from the trip is this
one of the lonely carousel in Jardin des Tuileries (and the lone pigeon).

I loved seeing these statues of former French queens set against the dark, bare trees in the Jardin du Luxembourg:
One of my favorite parts of the trip was my solo visit to Père Lachaise Cemetery. Not only is the cemetery huge (I wandered for an hour and a half, and saw only about a 1/4 of it), but it felt like a secluded village, with the cobblestone paths and the crypts like stone cottages. With the gloomy gray sky and the dead leaves, it made for a melancholy stroll, and I was intrigued the presence of the old and the new: brand-new headstones sitting side-by-side with centuries-old, moss-covered and crumbling headstones. Of course I had a tourist moment and sought out Jim Morrison's (fenced-off) grave, but I also saw Gertrude Stein's and Oscar Wilde's graves.
I guess there's just something about bare trees that appeals to me....
